The International Civil Aviation Organization sets limits on the condition and number of lithium batteries that are allowed to be carried on a passenger aircraft. Cargo batteries are prohibited in the airplane holds, although they are approved as carry-on luggage in the aircraft cabin, as long as they do not exceed 100Wh of energy charge.
This measure seeks to prevent possible accidents. The pressure variations that occur during airplane flights can cause battery leaks, toxic fumes, and even trigger fires or explosions.
At Blueshape we have developed the BX4, BX5 and BX8 flight cases, designed to be transported on cargo planes, to provide a solution for air shipping of batteries over 100Wh. These flight cases have been certified and approved in accordance with the UN Model Regulation for the Transport of Dangerous Goods and comply with IATA approval (UN3480 – 965 1A). Certification is restricted to the following models.
For the BX4 flight case: BV290 – BG290 – BV190 – BG190 – BV150 – BG150 (using pin protection)
